Sleek, new booth design makes a stylish architectural statement at major high-tech transportation hub.

Los Angeles, CA – January 24, 2013 – Airport architecture can be challenging. Optimal designs seek to balance sleek, technologically relevant motifs with user-friendly functionality. Fabricated from Type 304 stainless steel, and with a finish marked by custom wall reveal elements, the booth suggests classic aviation materials. The booth features all stainless steel-framed slide windows with a distinctive roller system.

The soaring, wing-shaped stainless steel roof overhang is painted a high gloss white using an exclusive, high-solids polyurethane. The entire booth is sheathed in sleek metal, and fronted with an ultra-contemporary window grid. The B.I.G. booth harmonizes with the surrounding architecture, and melds seamlessly with its surroundings.

New ‘Officers Station’ Elegant Security Solution for Airport Police

B.I.G. Enterprises’ streamlined guard station design blends with airport architecture

Los Angeles, CA – With over 23,000 commercial flights per day in the world, the growing number of travelers at airports, demands more security. To meet this need and improve airport safety for the vulnerable law enforcement personnel, B.I.G. Enterprises, Inc. (bigbooth.com) has just introduced the new Officers Station booth, designed specifically for the security of police officers at major Airports.

The prefabricated unit’s design was developed after months of planning and consulting with architects,
law enforcement and the general contractor. At approximately 300 square feet and featuring elements such as 1” tinted insulated type glazing with Low-E coating and custom roll down perforated shades, the Officers Station meets state codes, energy compliance, and has state approval and insignia for the location in which it is installed.

Not only is this a secure location for police officers, it is architecturally designed to blend into an airport’s existing environs.  The exterior’s large sloping overhang fascia, and galvanized steel door, top hung by rigid steel ball bearing rollers and lower stainless steel guide is lit with LED lights inside and out.  For added security, the stainless steel pull handle was welded to the frame and a mortise lock recessed into the frame with IC core.

To maintain the warm and cool temperatures for airport police, a three-ton Bard wall mounted HVAC was added with complete attic installed ducting, as well as exterior infrared heaters that were recessed in the overhand soffit above the door.

The interior highlights include a galvanized steel floor finished with industrial rubber tile flooring, an acoustic tile drop ceiling with a galvanized steel formed grid that was welded in place, a fully equipped restroom, and a large working area. Extensive electrical work was done including conduits and boxes for security, data & communications wiring.  The steel-framed shelves with MDF board are top-covered with laminate and trimmed with stainless steel.

A high solids polyurethane over two-part primer are finishing details that make B.I.G. Enterprises booths withstand hostile weather environments everywhere.

“Protecting airport police who protect the traveling public at today’s modern airports is an imperative to today’s facility security plans, said B.I.G.’s vice president Dave King, “and we’re pleased to help protect numerous airports including Chicago O’Hare, Logan International, LAX, Newark, JFK, San Francisco and many others.”

Custom guard shelter blends

Guard shelters that help secure residential developments should never be an afterthought.  B.I.G.’s newest custom designed and prefabricated model boasts superior fit and finish, and accommodates an endless variety of imaginative design elements.

Los Angeles, CA – Luxurious and sophisticated are terms generally used to describe high-end automobiles – not guard shelters. But when the developer of a high-end, coastal community complex recently required an element of security without compromised aesthetics, he turned to B.I.G. Enterprises, Inc. (www.bigbooth.com) to bring his vision to life. Integrating tough fit and finish with thoughtful design, B.I.G.’s newest prefabricated booth complements a wide range of refined architectural styles.

The new model, called The Del Rey is a single-occupancy unit designed to meet stringent safety and security regulations, while maintaining architectural congruity with the surrounding development. In-house engineering and fabrication ensures this unit meets all current building codes. Each detail is carefully considered prior to shipping to ensure a ‘no hitches’ installation.

The booth features detailed wainscoting on wall panels, and a sculptured fascia with custom crown molding along the soffit. For extra character and durability, a galvanized-steel standing seam roof deck boasts a baked-on Kynar 500 surface that carries a 30-year finish warranty.  The interior is trimmed out with 304 stainless-steel, #4-finish shelves, and 16-guage custom-painted, galvanized steel drawers mounted under the shelves. To maintain optimal comfort the booth features an Energy Star-rated HVAC system configured to match local climatic conditions.

Windows are of tinted, tempered dual-pane insulating glass, incorporating elegant Colonial-style mullions. Commercial steel-framed sliding doors are top-hung with rigid steel ball bearing rollers, and integrate high-security, jamb-mounted electro-magnetic locks with interior push button release. Unit is wired to accept FOB system entrance controls. The complete electrical package includes interior LED lights recessed in an acoustic tile ceiling. The ceiling grid is custom-fabricated from 16ga. galvanized steel, welded in place, and painted to match the interior. Exterior LED strip lighting is tastefully tucked into the fascia reveals, and multiple outlets and J-boxes with conduits are ready for configuring data and communications electronics.

The exterior of the new Del Rey is finished in four complementary colors using B.I.G.’s proprietary two-component, high-solids polyurethane over a two-part epoxy primer.

Advances in Custom Guard Shelter Design Eradicate Cookie-Cutter Booths

Custom Guard Shelter Booth

B.I.G. Enterprises, Inc. announces a new guard booth design called ‘The Wedge.’ Its attractive exterior conceals a battery of high-tech security and traffic control equipment options.

Los Angeles, CA – September 26, 2011 – In tandem with San Francisco architects working for a major financial services provider, B.I.G. Enterprises, Inc. (www.bigbooth.com) has just unveiled its newest design ‘The Wedge,’ to a downtown Bay Area location. Guard booths and security stations are linchpins in the checkpoint and perimeter security strategies of numerous organizations. Engineered for toughness, the stations must be flexible enough to accommodate a wide variety of electronics and monitoring equipment. The design also served as an architectural statement, defining the image of the facility.

Meeting stringent site-specific requirements, this custom guard shelter maximized design flexibility and helped manage cost. It featured a completely pre-fabricated, entirely painted, pre-wired unit featuring a seamless, innovative architectural roof design, emphasized by full-height sliding glass doors, and elongated windows accented by a structural wedge. The ergonomically thoughtful guard shelter was shipped to the site complete with HVAC, storage units, and full wiring for security cameras, gate controls, and data/communications electronics. The surfaces were also prepped to accept the application of a smooth-coat exterior stucco treatment.

This unique wedge design was a manufacturing challenge, one that many pre-fab manufacturers would be reluctant to undertake, since the structure had to meet location-specific wind and seismic load requirements, using minimal vertical frames. B.I.G. specializes in truly custom design fabrication – not cookie-cutter solutions.

Though intricate in design, ‘The Wedge’ was fabricated by B.I.G. with an eye to cost control. In many cases, a 25% savings can be achieved through pre-fab construction.

For over 45 years, engineers and decision-makers from hundreds of universities, transportation, chemical, agricultural, manufacturing and corporate facilities have turned to B.I.G. Enterprises to produce exceptional products and designs to meet the exacting requirements of today’s post-9/11 corporate and industrial security environment. B.I.G. specializes in new designs for the new normal.
